Julyan Falloon (Deputy CE. Programme Manager)

Julyan comes from a physical education teaching background and has also completed post graduate qualifications in sport management. Julyan's key role is one of regional management along with new project development and implementation. He's competed to an elite level in soccer and now enjoys all forms of physical activity.

Nigel Georgieff (Business Development Manager)

Nigel Georgieff (Business Development Manager)

Nigel has been with the Trust since early 2002. He is responsible for financial management, revenue generation and marketing of the Trust. He is actively involved in sport as a coach and administrator at club level, chair of a regional sports organisation and still plays touch and cricket. He has a background in organisational development and business management.

Rob Ecclestone (Sport Development Manager)

Rob Ecclestone (Sport Development Manager)

Rob is a Lincoln University graduate, completing a Bachelor of Park Recreation and Tourism Management in 1995, majoring in Sport Management.

Since May 1996, Rob has worked as part of the Sport Development team at Sport Canterbury, building up a wealth of knowledge as to how the sports industry works, the issues facing sports organisations and different solutions for dealing with these issues.

A keen hockey player, he has recently swapped the hockey stick for a golf club, and now has green keepers worried about the state of their golf courses.

Linda Wensley (Green Prescription Area Manager)

Being appointed to the role of GRx area Manager has provided Linda with an opportunity to bring together her diverse experience as a physiotherapist, outdoor education instructor and manager; as well as making good use of her study towards a Bachelor of Business.

Passionate about the outdoors, her own time is often spent paddling, pedaling and enjoying the natural environment.  She is equally excited about supporting others to enjoy the benefits of an active and healthy life.

Steph Conaghan (Finance Manager)

Steph joined the Trust in October 2007 as the Finance Officer. She has had a wide range of experience managing finances for a number of companies and other charitable organisations. Steph has a keen interest in sport, particularly rugby and cricket and enjoys walking, biking and attending the gym to keep fit.

Jon Derry (Education Team Leader and Active Schools Facilitator - Primary)

Jon Derry (Education Team Leader and Active Schools Facilitator - Primary)

Jon joined the team following his move from the UK, where he worked for a Local Authority Sports Development Team. After the completion of his studies in Sport and Health Science Studies Jon taught Outdoor Education for four years before working in Exercise Referral and on to the promotion and development of Sport and Physical Activity in schools and the community.

Jon tries to be active at every opportunity, he enjoys playing hockey and cricket and enjoy's every opportunity to utilise New Zealand's unique outdoor environment.

Tony Harvey (Programme Co-ordinator)

Tony Harvey (Programme Co-ordinator)

Tony has been employed by the Trust since its inception (1989). Tony works predominately in Primary and Intermediate schools, liaising closely with the community in providing a sport development service utilising regional sports organisations and clubs.

Tony is passionate about the delivery of quality physical activity to children and works closely with teachers and coaches to achieve this.

Tony has been involved with numerous sports as a player, coach, with soccer and cricket being his main sports. He has a Diploma in Recreation and Sport and is a Coach Educator for Football NZ. Before joining the Trust he worked in a series of government jobs as an administrator/consultant.

Adele Orangi (Active Movement Advisor)

Adele Orangi (Active Movement Advisor)

Adele is a qualified Early Childhood teacher, and taught in New Zealand and the United Kingdom for eight years.
She feels it is important to be active from a very early age to acquire the basic skills necessary to learn and develop through childhood and to have a base from which to expand.

Adele is passionate about sport and has been a representatvive player in both tennis and netball.

Gemma Cooper (Active Schools Facilitator)

Gemma Cooper (Active Schools Facilitator)

Gemma joined the Trust in September 2008. Originally from Dunedin, she has moved back to New Zealand from the UK.

Gemma has a Sports Science and Physical Education Honours degree from Loughborough University. Previously she worked in the development of sport & PE in schools for the Youth Sport Trust, and in disability sport for Great Britain Wheelchair Basketball Association. Most recently she worked in the Recreation & Leisure team in the Specialist Mental Health Service for the CDHB.

Gemma enjoys most sports and is passionate about being active, particularly outdoors.

Karen Bennett (Active Schools Facilitator)

Karen Bennett (Active Schools Facilitator)

Karen has joined the Active Schools team during September 2008, after primary school teaching in Mid Canterbury for three years. She has a sporting background from Mid Canterbury in various codes and has been striving for hockey umpiring success over the last five year. She brings a positive physical activity attitude and enjoys being involved in sport in any way - whether it be coaching, officiating, being a spectator or out there playing or participating in PA herself.

Aaron Webb (Active Youth Advisor)

Aaron Webb (Active Youth Advisor)

Aaron has come from an outdoor education management background, specialising in working with “at risk” teenagers. He has a bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation Management from Lincoln University and is nearing the completion of a Post Graduate Diploma in Sport Management. In his time outside of work Aaron volunteers as a rugby coach, and is right into mountain bike racing.

Youth mentoring is something Aaron is passionate about, and believes that sport plays a key role in the positive development of our young people.

Sara-Jayne van Ameyde (Children's Programmes Co-ordinator)

Sara-Jayne van Ameyde (Children's Programmes Co-ordinator)

Sara-Jayne joined the Sport Canterbury team in January 2009 as Children's Programmes Co-ordinator, after 8 years working for a computer software company.

Sara-Jayne has competed in a number of sports from a social to a national level, and has a real passion for keeping fit and healthy.

She is also a qualified Swim Teacher and is currently completing her Sport Management degree.

Jonny Kirkpatrick (Events and Marketing Manager)

Jonny Kirkpatrick (Events and Marketing Manager)

Jonny is responsible for the organisation and management of a number of events including the Canterbury Sports Awards, the Sporting Chance Golf Day, Conference of Sport and other one off events and projects the Trust embarks on. He is also involved in the marketing initiatives for the Trust and our programmes and manages the Inside Sport Canaterbury e-publication. 

Jonny has a BComm double major in Marketing and Management from the University of Otago and Post Graduate Diploma in Event Management and is a Jack of All Trades and master of none on the sports field. In February 2009 he completed the Coast to Coast as a Two Day Individual and now spends his weekend chasing a little white ball around the golf courses of Canterbury!

Justin Muschamp (Sport Opportunity Advisor)

Justin Muschamp (Sport Opportunity Advisor)

Justin is the Sport Opportunity Advisor for the Canterbury West Coast Sports Trust which is a joint intiative with the Halberg Trust. He completed a Bachelor of Parks Recreation and Tourism Management at Lincoln University in 1993. Since completing his degree he has worked in the sports sector for and with people with disabilities, with his major focus in the last five years being on inclusion.

Justin has Cerabral Palsy and was a member of the New Zealand Wheelchair Rugby Team (Wheelblacks) for the 1998 World Championships and 2000 Sydney Paralympic Games. Justin aims to ensure that all people with disabilities have the opportunity to be involved in sport and physical activity in their community.

Pat Barwick (Director of Coaching)

Pat Barwick (Director of Coaching)

Pat brings with her a wealth of experience in coaching and administration. She has coached various hockey teams, at various levels, including the NZ women's team at the Barcelona Olympics. And also represented NZ as a player for ten years (including 9 years as captain).

So with that experience, you can see she is well qualified for the role.

Lorraine McLeod (ClubMark Co-ordinator)

Lorraine has been involved with many sports but in recent years netball has claimed a majority of her time. She has been a player, coach, manager and an administrator so has strong ties with grass roots sport as well as at the elite level. In the last couple of years Lorraine has taken up rowing and competes at masters regattas.

Hayley Shearer (HEAL (Healthy Eating Active Living) Facilitator)

Hayley joined the trust in October 2008.

She has a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and a Post Graduate Diploma in Rehabilitation from the University of Otago. For the past 10+ years Hayley has worked in workplace health/physical activity promotion in both the public and private sector.

Hayley is passionate about walking the talk and encouraging others with respect to healthy living. She enjoys all forms of physical activity, particularly in the outdoors.

Andrea Pryce (Administration Manager)

Andrea was a new addition to Sport Canterbury in January 2010. Having quite a diverse background in Operations and Distribution, moving to the Sporting Sector is very interesting.

These days Andrea is living in the sports world mostly through children and is very involved in BMX Coaching at the Christchurch City Club. Having a keen interest in sport Andrea also follows Rugby, Cricket and anything else that her family are doing.

Trudy Baker (Administration Assistant)

Trudy has been working for the Trust since August 2006. She has an administration background and a passion for sport. Trudy competed for 12 years on the Marching field, the highlight was representing New Zealand against Australia in 1996. Trudy enjoys supporting her children in their physical activity and sporting endeavours.  Trudy is enjoying a recent return to Marching.

Megan joined the Trust in 2008. She has a background in administration, and more recently as a teacher of Physical Education. Sport has always been a major part of Megan’s life, gaining representative honours in both swimming and netball, and coaching secondary school netball for several years.
