2009 South Canterbury Sports Awards

More than 350 guests were entertained by twice Olympic double sculls gold medallists Georgina Earl and Caroline Evers-Swindell on May the 15th at the Sports South Canterbury 2009 Sports Awards. Olympic team pursuit bronze medallist Marc Ryan was named South Canterbury Sportsperson of the Year. The 26 year old beat off strong competition from fellow finalists clay shooter Natalie Rooney and World silver medal inline skating Champ Nicole Begg. The Young Sportsperson of the Year went to New Zealand’s rising star of tennis, Emily Fanning. The 13 year old currently has a world ranking of 8th in her age group and has represented New Zealand on 3 occasions during the eligible year.

The evenings celebrations highlighted the exciting talent and achievements of the sportspeople in South Canterbury.
