Bruce Morton was appointed General Manager of Sport Canterbury in December 2016.

Bruce brings extensive sports management and local leadership experience to Sport Canterbury, holding a Masters in Business Administration from Manchester University.

In his previous role as Chief Executive of Touch Canterbury, Bruce made a tremendous contribution to the sporting community. Christchurch welcomed the opportunity to host Touch Nationals and Junior National Championship events in February 2016, and junior participation in touch grew by 50% over a five year period under Bruce's leadership.

Bruce began his sports management career in 2003, joining the Victorian Rugby Football Union as Australia hosted the Rugby World Cup.

He left his Melbourne-based role as Victorian RFU Development Officer in 2005 to accept a position with the Arabian Gulf Rugby Football Union, taking responsibility as Rugby Development Manager position for six GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) countries.

Bruce has enjoyed every opportunity to travel, study abroad and play rugby around the world. He grew up in Christchurch and returned in 2011 to be closer to family.

An outdoor enthusiast and avid skier, Bruce has appreciated the chance to rediscover the Canterbury West Coast region.
