Muddy Motivation for Canterbury Students
Monday, 8 May, 2017
The date has been set for one of New Zealand’s most anticipated secondary schools events: the UC Education Mud Run for Secondary School Students.
The event will be held at Motukarara on Sunday 18 June 2017.
Past events have seen schools from across Greater Christchurch and as far afield as Mt Hutt, Cheviot and Roncalli (Timaru) taking part.
“This event was inspired in 2011, to provide secondary school students across post-quake Canterbury with a source of mid-winter relief,” says Sport Canterbury Chief Executive Julyan Falloon.
Six years later, thanks to a continuing partnership with UC Education, the event has become one of New Zealand’s most highly anticipated events for secondary school students.
“We were lucky enough to find a loyal sponsor to share our vision, and watch this event grow from year to year.”
As premier sponsor, UC Education has enjoyed watching the event increase participation by over 400% since its beginnings.
According to Falloon, the event is highly anticipated by a much wider group of students than those who traditionally have cared about being active. It takes ideas about goal setting and fitness training and makes them appealing to students who previously may not have been motivated.
Each year, the “Best Dressed Parade” has been a highlight of the day, with up to 250 teams of students lining up pre-race (from 12pm) to showcase crazy costumes for a shot at the coveted title.
“On behalf of Sport Canterbury, we would like to thank the schools, teachers, students and parents who have established this event on the region’s calendar."
