Jon Derry was appointed Sport Capability Advisor for Sport Canterbury in December 2013.
He was previously a Young Persons Advisor and has been with the Regional Sports Trust since 2006.
Jon takes responsibility for helping to develop the capability of Regional Sports Organisations (RSOs) and sports clubs. He actively develops opportunities for the people who drive the sporting sector - both paid staff and volunteers. The News Article are recent initiatives led by Jon and the Community Sport team.
Sport Canterbury's Community Sport team promotes lifelong participation in sport and recreation as well as community partnerships. The team provides support, leadership and advocacy to schools and sports clubs within its targeted communities.
Jon also provides support to KiwiSport Coordinators who deliver sporting experiences to young people across the region.
Now a resident of Governors Bay, Jon holds a degree in Sport and Exercise Science from Luton University (UK).
The outdoor enthusiast is passionate about engaging more people in sport. He enjoys cricket, squash and coaching his children's sports teams.
