As the Canterbury region continues to recover and transition, Sport Canterbury recognises the ongoing challenges facing the sport and recreation sector.
Alignment, collaboration and partnership, across the Greater Christchurch, Canterbury and West Coast region, is critical to the sector at this time.
Sport Canterbury, in partnership with Sport New Zealand, announced the appointment of Kevin Collier as Spaces and Places Consultant in October 2015.
Kevin will be based in Sport Canterbury's Christchurch office.
The primary focus of the Spaces and Places Consultant role is to work across the sector to align opportunities and support sector partners in achieving their objectives.
Collier's career in sport and recreation spans 20 years, and actually commenced with Sport Canterbury in 1993, after completing his Bachelor of Physical Education from Otago University.
He comes to Sport Canterbury from Christchurch City Council, where he led the Council’s Metropolitan Sports Facility Plan as Sports Services Manager.
Kevin also played a key part in bringing both the Cricket and FIFA U-20 World Cups to Canterbury. As an officer of Christchurch City Council, Collier supported the development of Hagley Oval and redevelopment of Cowles Stadium, as well as the creation of the Sport and Recreation Recovery Programme.
