Vicki Cowley

Community Sport Manager Vicki Cowley leads a team responsible for inspiring lifelong participation in sport and recreation, and promoting community partnerships.

She brings a depth of leadership experience to the Regional Sports Trust in the fields of movement, sport and physical education.

Vicki holds a Diploma of Physical Education from Otago University, and a Teaching Diploma and Postgraduate Diploma in Sport and Recreation from Lincoln University.

She has lectured at the University of Canterbury and, most recently, held a senior management role with GymSports New Zealand.

This role involved managing relationships with five of GymSports New Zealand’s larger clubs in the South Region, to support and develop club capability, to increase membership and participation (pay to play).

“One area that was very rewarding was supporting the clubs in the Canterbury region post-earthquake and, in particular, Olympia Gymnastics Sports and Christchurch School of Gymnastics, to position themselves in potential sporting hub facility developments.

“I have also experienced community sport as a participant (basketball, netball, tennis), volunteer (coach, judge), teacher, resource developer (Sport New Zealand Developing Fundamental Movement Skills resource), programme and course developer (Christchurch College of Education and University of Canterbury in Physical Education), sports manager and researcher.”

Outside of her role with Sport Canterbury, Vicki enjoys walking, swimming, reading and spending time with family and friends.
