Kia ora Healthy Active Learning whanau,

After another busy term we would love to share some of the amazing work that has been happening in your schools. Our term 3 newsletter highlights some of this mahi and identifies some true Health and Physical Education champions among you.

Sport Canterbury is proud to be managing Tū Manawa Active Aotearoa on behalf of Sport NZ in our region.

Tū Manawa Active Aotearoa provides funding for programmes or projects delivering play, active recreation and sport experiences for tamariki and rangatahi. These may be new or already operating.

We know from research that there are some groups who are more at risk of missing out or being less active, including those living with a disability, in higher deprivation communities and girls and young women. Programmes or projects that reach these groups will be prioritised for funding.

Round Two of Tū Manawa Active Aotearoa is open now

On Wednesday 19 August we celebrated Poipoia! Time to Play, with the gifting of our region's first Play Pod to Te Ara Koropiko | West Spreydon School co-designed by the team at Sport Canterbury and the school's Physical Activity Leaders.

The vision of these students is symbolic of the spirit of Christchurch kids and this vastly important mission of our schools: to keep kids learning, growing and playing.

They have developed a Mentoring Programme to address struggles that tamariki may be facing, using Rams players as mentors.
