Active Kids Holiday Highlights

Wednesday, 5 April, 2017

Canterbury families have countless reasons to book a space on Sport Canterbury’s popular holiday programmes – including a chance for kids to meet Canterbury Kings captain Andrew Ellis.

Former Black Cap Ellis built his reputation early as a bowler with Canterbury, but made significant contributions with the bat in 2010-11, scoring his maiden first-class hundred. His performances earned him a spot in New Zealand's squad for the ODIs against Zimbabwe in January 2012.

He will visit Sport Canterbury’s Westburn Active Kids Holiday Programme on Friday 21 April from 9:30am.

Ellis will bring stories from his experience representing New Zealand as a Black Cap, as well as from his current role of Canterbury Kings captain.

“Kids will have the chance to ask Andrew questions about cricket and how he started out,” says Sport Canterbury Active Kids Manager Jules Wilke. "They are welcome to bring along cricket bats or jerseys for an autograph on the day."

Ellis leads the region’s Pathway to Podium programme, helping to prepare aspiring young athletes for a life in high performance sport.

“Andrew is looking forward to meeting kids who, much like himself, started out with dreams of representing New Zealand.

“Bring your best bowling action, and see if you can smash him for a six!”
