Supporting leaders is more important than ever, given the ever changing, challenging and complex environment we find ourselves working under.
Geni Ah Tong, Manager of Healthy Families Ōtautahi, recently completed a Nuku Ora “Leading Teams” leadership development programme, designed to improve the leadership capability of Leaders themselves, or those who are emerging as Leaders.
The course, a four month hybrid programme, attracted leaders from regional sports trusts, government departments, funders, councils, disability organisations and recreation organisations from all across Aotearoa, and provided participants with the tools to:
- create an effective team and taking diversity and inclusion into consideration;
- convey organisational purpose and provide clarity to team members about their roles and the contribution they make;
- ask questions, give constructive feedback, confidence to face challenges;
- navigate complexity and understand the prioritisation of tasks and resources;
- look to the future while also balancing ‘today’s needs’; and
- empower team members, setting clear expectations, milestones, and timeframes.
For Ah Tong, the course allowed her to connect with others and experience personal growth - “I enjoyed the learning experience I gained from the Nuku Ora Leadings programme. Most importantly, the personal growth in leading self; connecting with others in similar positions; and learning new leadership skills in a practical context to enable others to lead. These experiences in the programme were valuable for my future endeavours in leadership and teamwork.”
