Sport Canterbury, in partnership with our valued sponsors, are pleased to present the Sport and Recreation Awards – a new take on our traditional sports awards.
This year, Christchurch City Council will support the Community Sport and Recreation Impact Award, a new category. This is awarded to an unsung administrator/s, volunteer/s, club or group that has shown great commitment and made a real difference in the last 12 months to a sport, recreation initiative or organisation.
The Council has been a key supporter and partner of not only the sports awards but Sport Canterbury as a whole. Our shared vision is for communities across Ōtautahi to have the opportunity to be active in any way they desire without barriers. We have a strong history of working collaboratively on a range of initiatives and projects to bring this vision to reality.
Christchurch City Council Head of Recreation, Sports & Events Nigel Cox says the Council wished to support the new category as it highlights important community initiatives that make a real impact.
“The Council are pleased to be supporting the Impact Award in particular as it puts the spotlight on the unsung heroes doing great things within our communities – providing quality experiences for everyone,” says Mr Cox.
“This is a great opportunity to celebrate and share their stories, and inspire others to get involved.”
“The Council and Sport Canterbury have enjoyed a long partnership. We’re proud to support not only the new Community Sport and Recreation Impact Award, but all categories in the Sport and Recreation Awards,” says Mr Cox.
The Community Sport and Recreation Impact Award will be announced on the Sport Canterbury Facebook page during the third week of May.
