Ngā Puna Wai Hosts the Ki o Rahi Regionals

 Indigenous Systems Return

Today for the first time ever, the Kī o Rahi Regionals were held at our city's new home for community sport, Ngā Puna Wai.

Kī o Rahi and traditional Māori games are known as taonga tākaro, in which they hold rich history and strong ties to Māori narratives.

It brings together cultural values, fast-paced play and simple sporting fun.

Today's tournament brought together schools from across Ōtautahi Christchurch with this common vision:

Kia Nui Ake, Kia Kaha Ake, Te Tokohama Ake

Across Christchurch, there is growing awareness of the role that indigenous games can play in our young people’s wellbeing – while being a vehicle to raise awareness of Maori language and culture.

Our Community Sport and Healthy Families Christchurch teams support this revival.
